Cycling is low impact

A lot of sports and exercise are high impact, meaning that they can put unnecessary strain and stress on our joints. We often choose high impact activities because they are the best cardio workouts, burn the most calories and make us sweat the most. Cycling offers all the benefits of a great cardio workout without the high impact, making cycling a great option for all ages and people prone to injury. Especially as you can take it at your own pace, starting with leisurely rides and building up to be a more dynamic physical workout.

Cycling uses all major muscle groups

Cycling like swimming uses all the major muscle groups in the body. From quads and hamstrings to core and upper body muscles such as the lats and triceps. Riding a bike provides a workout for the entire body, it increases muscle flexibility, strength and mobility. It can even help to improve posture, balance and coordination. So even though it feels like you might just be going along for the ride, there’s some full-body engagement going on too!

Cycling gets you outside

Whether you swap out your drive to work or just take a weekend bike ride, cycling gives you the chance to spend more time outdoors. It makes for a more mindful and connected experience when we take our exercise outside. It gives our mind time to switch off, disconnect from work and the stress of daily life and create a focused, moving meditation. With the high number of cars on the road, harmful and deadly emissions are constantly polluting our atmosphere. Ditching your car and using a bike instead helps to reduce your carbon footprint and lessen the amount of CO2 released into the air. Exercising for 20 minutes a day can improve mood and reduce depression. It can also improve cardiovascular health, boost immunity, help with weight loss, decrease stress levels and improve stamina. So not only is it good for a healthy body but a healthy mind too. Regular exercise also helps to keep you motivated, hosts social benefits and can improve self-confidence!
